Best Wishes

I have three friends and three family members dealing with different types of cancer right now.

Last year when my husband was fighting for his life, I found that many people just didn't know what to say to us so they said nothing and stayed away. What do you say to someone who could be dying?

There were days when "Best Wishes" would have been enough.

Heartiest Birthday Greetings Crazy Quilt Block from Vintage Vogue

Here's a crazy quilt block featuring one of my favorite postcards from my personal collection. It's B113 from my Vintage Postcard CD.

Print the block directly onto computer printer fabric with your inkjet printer, then use it as the foundation for your crazy quilt block with the center image already in place.

To use this foundation pattern, align the edge of your fabric with the dotted line and sew on the straight line. Flip the fabric over and press toward the dotted line.

Stitch two pieces of fabric together (2-1, 2-2 and 3-1, 3-2). Treat as one piece of fabric for 2 and 3. Stitch three pieces of fabric together (1-1, 1-2 then add 1-3 and 4-1, 4-2 then add 4-3). Treat as one piece of fabric for 1 and 4.

Piece the block, then embellish it with threads, trims, ribbons and beads. Embroider "Happy Birthday" and add the Bird 1 finding, too.

When you have time to browse, please visit Vintage Vogue.

And have a Happy Birthday!

Heartiest Birthday Greetings

As one of my favorite postcards from my personal collection, this has become my "go to" digital birthday greeting for my family and friends. It's B113 from my Vintage Postcard CD.

June is the month for three birthdays on my side of the family.

Shelby's birthday is tomorrow, June 3rd. She's my niece and the first granddaughter in the family. This is one of my favorite pictures of her as a little girl. She's the only daughter of my older brother, Bill.

Shelby's no longer a little girl, but a lovely woman that has three girls of her own now.

Krosby, Campbell and Jensen are the only grandchildren on my side of our family at this time. I don't get to see them very often, but I love it when I do. Campbell was born on the same day last year that my husband had surgery for colon cancer. March 6, 2015 was both a terrible and a wonderful day for us.

Sean's birthday is next week on June 9th. He's my younger brother, Tim's, youngest son. I get to see him even less than I get to see my family in Arizona.

The last birthday in my family this month is my older brother's on June 24th. Fifteen months separate our birthdays. Bill is Shelby's father, so the darling grandchildren are his.

This is one of my favorite pictures of the two of us when we were young.

My parent's bought this couch when they moved into their home in 1958. They still live in the same house. This couch was originally brown, then turquoise, then cream and then a light-colored stripe. After it had been recovered for the third time, it moved from the living room into the family room. A couple of years ago I had to finally tell my Mom was that it was time for the 50+ year old couch to go. It had seen enough birthdays.

Feel free to copy and use this postcard image in your projects or to send to a friend. Later this month, I'll be posting a new free crazy quilt block pattern using this vintage postcard.

If your birthday is this month, Happy Birthday to You! I hope you have many more.
